"William
Alldredge died 1789 in Randolph County, North Carolina, and is buried in the
MacMasters graveyard. The tombstone reads born 1729 died 1789. (MEMO: Photos
available on Find-a-Grave, but inscription extremely difficult to read!) It is
traditionally said that his full name was William Ezekiel Alldredge. The
following children were named in his will. viz: Mary, William, Ezekiel,
Bethana, John, Sarah, Isabel, Sophia, Rosannah, Susannah, Samuel, Aaron, Moses
and Merriate. The date on the Will is clearly 13 November 1789
The Earl of
Granville made a grant of land in September 1758 to William Aldridge. This land
at this date was in Orange County, later Randolph County. Randolph was formed
1779 from Guilford and Guilford formed 1771 from Rowan and Orange. In 1784
William Aldridge entered 200 acres on Sandy Creek Water. 14 Dec 1789 John
Barker and Elizabeth Aldridge was named executors of the estate of William
Aldridge, deceased of Randolph County, for 100 tract of 184 acres on Sandy
Creek Water...and also all the estate right title claim. Thus Elizabeth
Aldridge being the wife of the late William Aldridge. Her birth date and maiden
name is not known. She died 29 Oct 1793 and is buried beside her husband."
NOTE: There
are a number of web sites that claim his father was James Aldridge, the brother
of the William Aldridge claimed in this Coffey family genealogy. Subject for
future research?
Also I see a
note attached to the Kivet family indicating that the Aldridge's were or became
Quakers when they moved to North Carolina. This was written by Tim Peterman.
However search of “Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. Vol. I: (North
Carolina Yearly Meeting)” yielded
no specific matches. (There were “Aldridge” Quakers, but they appear to be
later than the time of the move.)

sites report she was “Elizabeth Symons, born 1734 in Randolph Co., NC. However
her husband’s mother had this name, not clear what is going on!
