Connected Families:

A number of records related to Joseph Bondurant in Buckingham County can be found on ancestry.com – just search for his name. However one of these is interesting to cite, because it connects a number of my related families:

There were three "Legislative Petitions", all dated 7 Nov 1791, for Buckingham County, VA. One protested the establishment of a town called Greensville, and the other two proposed the construction of warehouses and a tobacco inspection at the mouth of Bent Creek. And these petitions include a lengthy collection of signatures, with several familiar names:

Joseph Bondurant Senior was one of the signers, and also signing were his sons William, Edward, and Joseph Junior.

Further, the signatures included Charles Maxey (who married Joseph Bondurant's daughter Anne), and Charles' brothers William and John. Also signing was a Thomas Maxey, whom I believe was the son of Charles' first cousin Nathaniel.

Finally, one petition was signed by Abner and William Coffee.  I know about these two men, and the Coffey/Coffee DNA Project PROVES they are my relatives. However we don't know the name of their Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA), who lived back in Ireland some time in the 1600's. Best guess: This William is roughly my "Third Cousin Seven Times Removed", give or take a generation or two. (William is the son of Peter Coffee, born about 1716 in Ireland. I descend from Edward Coffey, who was already in America by 1699. DNA tests prove Edward and Peter were related, i.e., with a common Irish ancestor. William married Mary McAllister, and died in Buckingham County in 1798. "Abner" is William's oldest son.)

My "Bondurant/Maxey" ancestry line was united with my "Coffey" ancestry when my mother and father were married in 1925.

Marriage:                 19 May 1745

Spouse:                   Agnes Elizabeth RADFORD

Birth:                      1725                       Powhatan Co., VA

Father:                     John M RADFORD (1694-1773)

Mother:                   Elizabeth MAXEY (~1704-)

Misc. Notes

The husband of Agnes was proved by a deed of gift on 19 May 1747 of 125 acres “from John Radford of the County of Goochland to Joseph Bondurant and Agnes his wife, daughter of the said John Radford.” This land was sold by Joseph and Agnes on 28 Sebtember 1772.

Named as the wife of Joseph Bondurant and daughter of John Radford in a 19 May 1747 deed of gift from John to Joseph in Goochland Co. Her death date is questionable, she was named in the 26 Nov 1803 will of her husband.
