VELMA: Carol was a nurse, in charge of the Cancer section in Kansas City, and also in El Paso. Also worked with the railroad for a while. Got her training in Kansas City. She and Frank divorced after moving to El Paso.

She then married Ed Dickert, they had a very good life.

Born on Christmas Day, her parents gave her the name Carroll, but she later changed the spelling because she didn’t like it! Carol was an excellent nurse at Kansas City General Hospital. We’ll hear more later about how Carol paved the way for sister Erma’s nurse training.

While in Kansas City, Carol married Frank Jonson, and together they moved to El Paso, Texas. Frank proved himself a poor husband and their marriage ended. That’s when Carol met Ed Dickert and they married. They lived very happily together for many years.

Carol became sick in (?) and Frank brought Erma down from Iowa to take care of her. For Thanksgiving that year, the girls decided to stuff a turkey. They stuffed in one loaf of bread and saw there was room for more. After a trip to the store, they stuffed in another loaf. More room. Three loaves, four loaves, five loaves should do it. Good work, girls! (It took one person and a knife to carve that turkey, and took three people and an axe to carve the stuffing!)

After Ed passed away and Velma retired from Missions, Velma lived in El Paso, Texas with Carol. Carol passed away in 2002 at the age of 96.
