1920 IOWA CENSUS:

William was actually DOUBLE COUNTED in the 1920 census. The information above shows that his parents were still claiming him in Iowa, but the is NOT where he was. (Family story is that Bill had some sort of dispute with father Newton, and moved out – but nobody has given me the details.)

1920 SHERIDAN COUNTY, WYOMING, CENSUS:

William M Coffey is in Sheridan County, Wyoming, a hired man in the household of Allen B Willey. (Allen was born in Lucas County, Iowa, so it is quite possible that William found his job through Iowa connections?)

His future wife, Lucy Patterson, is in Washakie County, Wyoming, age 17, living in the household of her uncle James Benson. Close by is Lucy’s mother, and four of her brothers. Her mother is Essie (Benson) (Patterson) Rebideaux. (Lucy’s father, Leonadis Patterson, moved his family from Arkansas to Wyoming in about 1904. He died in 1912, and Essie married George Rebideaux.) There were three young “Rebideaux” children in the household, in addition to the four “Patterson” boys.

1930 CENSUS, GARDEN GROVE, DECATUR, IA:

William M Coffey, age 29, with wife Lucile P Coffey (27), Evelyn M (8), Emmet W (6) and Leonadis N (4). He is a farm laborer, they live on Main Street (near Robert Fridley). All the children were born in Wyoming.
