CAUTION:
This
"John HARDY who died in Chowan County, NC, in 1719 and who had a wife
Rebecca and daughters Elizabeth and Mary" is a readily identified real
person. He was a very wealthy and influential planter in North Carolina, and a
lot of info can be found on him and his family.
UNFORTUNATELY,
there are two weak links in the genealogy that might show his connection to our
family. First, it is far from obvious that the Katherine HARDY identified as
his daughter is really his daughter. See the notes with Katherine and her
husband John STANSELL for more discussion.
Secondly,
even if we make a link with the STANSELL family, there is a still question
about whether his granddaughter, Susan STANSELL, is really in our family link.

that link fails, there is another possibility for a connection – see the
discussion with Jesse BARBRE Jr. and his wife Sarah STANSELL.
Bottom line:
I have not gone further into the HARDY family links. However they will be easy
to investigate if we ever are able to establish a firm connection.
