FRED COFFEY: Alvina is not my direct ancestor, she is a great-aunt.
However she lived an interesting life, serving as a missionary in Burma and

OBITUARY:
Alvina Irene
Robinson was born Jan. 25, 1876 in Decatur Co. IA and departed this life April
21, 1963. She united with the Maple Grove Methodist Church when she was about
14 years of age. She taught school for a number of years in southern IA. She
was graduated from Simpson College, Indianola, IA.
She went
from the Des Moines Methodist Conference as a missionary to Rangoon, Burma, in
the early 1900's. She taught in the Methodist Girls' School at Rangoon, and in
the Boarding School.
She was
transferred to Sinoncha, India about 1919, where she was in charge of a home
for homeless women and children. Sometime after her mothers death March 16,
1919, she came to the states on furlough and remained to make a home for her
father. Her niece Opal Coffey from Fort Orb, CA, came to be with her and care
for her during her last illness.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She leaves to
mourn her loss two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Holder of Patterson, CA and Mrs. Newton
Coffey of Garden Grove, IA, a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral
services were held Thurs., April 25, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Garden
Grove. Rev. Edna Whitson officiating. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Evans, Harold Evans, Mrs. Rachel Williams and Mrs. Hattie Benson with Mrs.
Stella Hickman at the piano.
Pallbearers
were her nephews, Carl Coffey, William Coffey, Leo Coffey, Raymond Coffey,
Harold Holder and Gerald Hickman.
Burial was
in the Garden Grove cemetery.
NOTE from Fred Coffey: On a visit
to California with my parents in about 1955 we visited Aunt Alvina. She shared
some of her stories and collected memorabilia from her Burma experience.
