Mr. Shamp was a Burlington police officer and captain, serving for 24 years and retiring in 1985. He then worked as security captain for Pinkerton at J. I. Case and until he retired in1994.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1957, Iowa State Policemen’s Association, Chiefs of Police Association, Keeper of the Wampum of the Honor Society of the Silver Tomahawk, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 150, Youngs Lake Campground in Kirkwood, Illinois, assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 45, member of Troop 3 and received the District Award of Merit in 1976.

Survivors include his wife of over 47 years, Marilyn Shamp of Burlington; three sons, Sean (Julie) Shamp of Burlington, Brad (Abbe) Shamp of Lantana, Florida and Rick (Kelly) Shamp of Burlington; foster son Terry (Darlene) Miller of Roselle, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Lucas, Justin and Mackahlan Shamp and Lacee Nordgren.
