Thomas G. Aten is found in the 1910 Iowa census, Fremont county, Locust Grove township. He is age 58 and born in Illinois, his father in Pennsylvania and his mother in Ohio. He is a clergyman/preacher. He has been married for 24 years to Carrie age 51, a first marriage for both. They have had 4 children, 3 living. She was born in Iowa, both parents in Germany. At home is Ruby age 13 and born in Iowa.

REVEREND ATEN: He was baptized in 1869 at West Jersey, Illinois, about the same date as his conversion. He came to Garden Grove, Iowa, in 1871. His business then was that of a farmer and school teacher and he held the office of steward in the Church at Garden Grove for several years. He was licensed a local preacher August 10, 1881 at Leon, Iowa by the Chariton District Conference. He was ordained a Deacon at Des Moines, Iowa, September 20, 1885 by Bishop Cyrus D. Foss. He was graduated from Simpson College with a Degree of A.B. in 1885. He received an MA degree from Simpson College in 1888. He was received on trial September 22, 1885, in the Des Moines Conference and was admitted to full membership September 16, 1887. He was ordained an Elder September 15, 1889 by Bishop Henry W.
