REPORT OF CONVERSATION, SANDRA BELLAS COFFEY WITH HER UNCLE EDDIE, 9/5/03:
(I asked about my uncle John whom I never knew who died at 35 of a coronary infusion(?)which caused a blood clot thru the brain and instant death.) I was in Philly at the time John died. He was buried in his uncle's spare lot but was later exhumed and buried in his wife's family plot at a Ukrainian cemetary. (His wife's name was Anne, I remember visiting her as a child but not really aware of who she was or what role she played in my life. I was a bridesmaid in her daughter Paula's wedding. I know my dad and John were involved in gymnastics and both were very good. That must be where I get my flexibility from.)
Bryan & Sandy Notes: Was a professional gymnast when younger, was an upholsterer before joining the military. He is a WWII Veteran, and was a shop teacher after service.
MILITARY RECORD: Found an “Application for World War II Compensation” (he got $500) for John. He enlisted in the army on Dec 10, 1941, and was discharged Nov 12, 1945. He got credit for 23 months of domestic service, and 25 months of foreign service. Enlistment record shows he had 2 years of high school education. Civilian occupation furniture manufacture. At enlistment he was 5’7” tall and weighed 155 pounds.
SSDI: Found a John Bellas born 8 Mar 1920, died Feb 1959, SS# 211-09-0774 issued in Pennsylvania. This clearly sounds like the right person, so have used these birth and death dates. (Fred Coffey)
