1925 Iowa Census, Long Creek, Decatur Co: Vern (indexed as “Wm”) is there, age 25. Vern completed 4th grade, his wife finished 5th grade. Reports his father is R.A. Palmer, his mother Sarah Stant (Stout). Wife is Olire (actually Sarah Olive), age 26. Her father was Luke Collins, her mother Clarah Hall. Children at home are Carrol (5) and Robert (3). (NOTE: This census makes it clear that R.A.’s second wife Ellen is the sister of Vern’s wife Sarah Olive.)


1930 census, Long Creek, Decatur, IA: “Vern” is living next door to father Robert A. He is age 31. Wife Sarah O is age 31. Children are Carrol (10), Robert Luke (8), Raymond (6), Wayne (3 yrs, 8 mo), and Harold E (1).
