he arrived at the seaport in Watertown or Charlestown, Massachusetts about 1639, then removed to Braintree, Massachusetts. He married Sarah Gilbert (1624-16-?), in 1640. He became a freeman in May 6, 1646, then moved to Malden, Massachusetts. There he acquired a 100 acres of land.

His will was executed in Malden, Massachusetts, on July 4, 1688. He had his estate probated on 2 Sep 1688 in Malden, Middlesex, Massachusetts. (Images of will and probate records availaable online in “Mass Wills and Probate Records”, but the handwriting is ornate and difficult.)

Joel was Sarah's father's servant, who probably came with the family from England.
