Some notes on the history of Medford, mentioning the Hall name.
The area was settled in 1630 by Matthew Craddock's men and continued as a private farm or plantation for the next 45 years. From 1660 to 1675 the second owner of Meadford Farme, John Collins, gradually broke the land up into smaller tracts which were sold individually. As purchasers of these tracts, the Wade, Willis, Hall, Tufts, Bradshaw, Francis, Whitemore and Brooks families became the founders of the town of Medford.
John Hall was of Concord, 1658, and Cambridge 1667-1675. He bought land at Medford, MA, June 27, 1675, History of the Town of Medford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts from 1630 to 1855, Charles Brooks. Medford was included in territory granted, Dec. 30, 1622, by Plymouth Company to Robert Georges (Brooks, p. 100).
John Hall, son of Widow Mary Hall, born in England, 1627, died in Medford, Massachusetts, October 18, 1701. He took the oath of fidelity in 1652, and same year the town of Cambridge granted him twenty acres of church land in Billerica. He lived in Concord several years previous to 1667, then returned to Cambridge, and in 1675 removed to Medford and bought a farm there. He was constable and selectman in 1677, and selectman again in 1690. He made his will in 1699, lived two years afterward, and was buried in the old graveyard at Medford.
