Misc. Notes
MEMO:
1849 IMMIGRATION ARRIVAL??
In the 1900 census, Mary indicated she was born in Ireland, and that she immigrated in about 1850. There is a passenger list indicating that a “Mary Noonan” arrived on 17 Oct 1849 to Boston from Liverpool on the ship “R.C.Winthrop”. She is age 15, with occupation “Servant”. It’s a good fit.
1891 MARRIAGE OF DAUGHTER MARY A SLINE:
Found the marriage record of daughter Mary A. Sline, and that confirms that “mother-in-law” Mary in the 1900 census (below) is her mother. Mary A. Sline, born about 1868, married Mark E. Holmes on 29 Jun 1891 in Lowell, MA. And that record names the parents of Mary Ann as “James and Mary”.
1900 CENSUS, DRACUT, MIDDLESEX, MA:
This census has a widowed Mary Sline, born about 1840 in Ireland. She is “mother-in-law” in the Household of Mark Homes. Mary is indicated as unable to read or write. She has had 7 children, 4 still living. Mark’s wife is “Mary A”, born about 1870. And OUR “Mary” had a daughter “Mary Ann”. (The ages don’t fit well - but keep in mind the info may have been provided by a son-in-law who may have been guessing? )
1902 DEATH OF MARY:
Mary Slines, age 59, maiden name Noonan, died 27 Feb 1902 in Lowell, MA. Parents were Timothy Noonan and Bridget BYRON. Address was 449 Lakeview. Cause was ulcer of stomach. Buried St Patrick Cemetery.
ST PATRICK CEMETERY, LOWELL, MA::
Cemetery records say Mary Slines (sic) was interred on 2 Mar 1902, St Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, MA. She is in “yard 5B, range 34, lot 51”. (This cemetery is HUGE! If you have a GPS, go to coordinates 42.621497, -71.307463. Her grave should be within 100’ of that location.)
