MALVERN LEADER Newspaper, (approx) May 25, 1896 -- Mr. Alfred Huntsman who lives southeast of Emerson, was stricken down with apoplexy Tuesday of last week and at present is in a very critical condition. He has been unable to move or speak and a general paralysis of all parts has very nearly ensued. Mr. Huntsman is one of our oldest settlers and most respected citizens and his unfortunate condition is viewed with alarm and solitude by his numerous friends and acquaintenances.
MALVERN LEADER Newspaper, (approx) May 28, 1896 -- Died.-- At his home near Emerson Tuesday morning, May 26, Mr. Alfred Huntsman, aged 67 years. He had been a citizen of Mills county for 35 years. He was born in Monroe County Ohio and when the gold excitement was at its fever heat in Cal. he emigrated thither to seek his fortune. He was a man of upright character constant industry and large acquaintenances. The funeral services were held at his late residence yesterday at ten o'clock and wee conducted by Rev. Church. The remains were laid to rest in the North Grove Cemetery.
MALVERN LEADER Newspaper, Thursday, June 4, 1896 --Alfred Huntsman, one of Indian Creek township's pioneers, passed away on Tuesday of last week, from the effects of a paralytic stroke. He was widely known and highly esteemed.
MALVERN LEADER Newspaper, (approx) June 4, 1896 -- OBITUARY - Alfred Huntsman, was born in Richland County, Ohio, May 15, 1829, and died May 26, 1896 at his home near Emerson, aged 67 years and 11 days. While he was yet small, his parents moved to Illinois where they resided for several years. They came to Iowa in 1848 where the deceased remained for two years and in 1850 went to California near Sacramento where her remained three years, when returning to Mills County, Iowa, where he was afterward married to Miss Hannah Watson in 1855. To them were born 9 children, four of whom have preceeded him to the Eternal world. Five yet remain with the wife and mother to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. His illness was of short duration. On Tuesday evening, May 19, he received a paraletic stroke from which he never recovered nor spoke. Thus we have lost another of our most worthy citizens. The funeral services were held at the house at 10am May 28, conducted by Rev. E.J. Church after which the renains were interred in the North Grove Cemetery. The family has the sympathy of a large circle of friends and neighbors.
