Mrs. Myrtle M. Raymond, age 86, of Tallman Lake, Fountain, passed away Monday, June 18, at the Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington.

Myrtle was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Granger County, Tenn., to Samuel and Levie (Ogan) Coffey and graduated from Rutledge High School in Tennessee. She later attended nursing school in Knoxville, Tenn., where she would earn a degree as a registered nurse. Myrtle married Glessner Sawdey in 1937, and later married Max Raymond in October 1956, in Angola, Ind. Max preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Myrtle retired from United Steel and Wire in Battle Creek and was active on their credit union board. She was also active in the Democratic Party and the American Business Women’s Association. She enjoyed spending her free time bowling and loved to garden and fish.

Myrtle will be lovingly remembered by her children, David Lee (Barbara) Sawdey of Tallman Lake, Roger (Carolyn) Sawdey of Yorkville, Ill., Karen (Lawrence) Lawyer and Clifford (Nancy) Raymond, all of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Elizabeth Clifton of Marshall.

Services will be held for Myrtle at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Stephens Funeral Chapel in Scottville. Burial will follow at Bachelor Cemetery.

Friends may meet with Myrtle’s family on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Myrtle Marie Coffey and Glessner Lee (Lester?) Sawdey were married on 24 June 1936 in LaGrange, LaGrance Co., IN.³⁹¹³¹ They³⁹¹³¹ appeared in the census on 16 April 1940 in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI.³⁹¹³² Glessner Lee (Lester?) Sawdey, son of Wilbur Avery Sawdey and Ona Stella Hunter, was born on 23 February 1916 in Battle Creek Twp., Calhoun Co., MI. Glessner died in Battle Creek Twp., Calhoun Co., MI on 25 October 1998 and was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI in October 1998 .³⁹¹³³

Myrtle Marie Coffey and Max Raymond were married in 1956 in Angola, Steuben Co., IN. Max Raymond was born in 1913. Max died in Michigan in 1995 and was buried at Bachellor Cemetery in Fountain, Mason Co., MI in 1995 .³⁹¹³⁴
