James died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Center Twp., Marion Co., IN on 10 November 1977 and was buried at Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello, Wayne Co., KY on 12 November 1977 .41254,41255 James Nelson Coffey was born April 22, 1889 and passed away November 10, 1977 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born in Wayne County on Wolf Creek in the part that later became McCreary County. The oldest son of Rev. Nelson (Judge) and Sarah Emerine Worley Coffey, his family came to Wayne County in the early 1800's from Burke County, North Carolina. He was a great-great-great grandson of Reuben Coffey of the Revolutionary War. When he was a very young man, the family moved to Elk Springs to the Perry Ingram farm where they lived until 1928 when they moved to Fall Creek, Ky., where they lived until failing health caused him to give up farming and move to Indiana. Mr. Coffey loved Wayne County and all his friends and relatives and was blessed with good health that enabled him to walk and be about until three months before he passed away. On Fed. 22, 1911 [sic] he was united in marriage to Dica [sic] Ann Roberts, who died in 1962. To this union 3 sons and 2 daughters were born: Mrs. Lindsay (Alma) Whitis, Clayton, Indiana, Mrs. James (Alta) Parks, Monrovia, Indiana, James Claude Coffey, killed in battle in WW II, Clyde Herbert Coffey, Salt Lake City, Utah and Robert Carl Coffey, who died 3 years ago. He had 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Albert and Wilburn (both deceased), Mrs. Frank (Alice) Martin of Monticello, Mrs. John (Margaret) Denney (deceased) Mrs. Robert (Kizzie) Blake, Clayton, Ind., and 1? grandchildren [sic] and 12 great grand-children. He joined the Canada's Creek Baptist Church at an early age and later moved to the Second Street Baptist Church in Monticello. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 2:00 P.M. at the Hoyt Hickey & Son Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Dewey Burks and Rev. Howard Dobbs officiating with the Tucker family providing the singing. Burial was in Elk Spring Cemetery. James Nelson Coffey and Dicie Ann Roberts were married on 22 February 1912 in Wayne Co., KY. They lived with his parents in Oil Valley, Wayne Co., KY on 8 January 1920. They lived with his parents in Wayne Co., KY on 4 April 1930. James and Dicie appeared in the census on 2 April 1940 in Wayne Co., KY.41256 Dicie Ann Roberts was born on 24 July 1893 in Wayne Co., KY. Dicie died at Morgan County Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, Morgan Co., IN on 23 April 1962 and was buried at Elk Spring Cemetery in Monticello, Wayne Co., KY in April 1962 .41254,41257 Funeral rites held in Kentucky for Dicie Coffey Mrs. Dicie Coffey, wife of James Coffey, 129 East 11th street, died Monday morning in Morgan County Memorial Hospital. She had been critically ill for seven or eight months. Mrs. Coffey was born in Wayne County, Ky., July 24, 1893, the daughter of Richard and Balzora Bell Roberts and was married to James Coffey on Feb. 22, 1911. She and her husband had moved to this city five years ago. She was a member of the Coopersville Baptist church. Survivors beside the husband are two daughters, Mrs. Alma Whitis of Indianapolis and Mrs. Alta Parks, Monrovia; two sons, Clyde Coffey, of this city and Robert Coffey, Indianapolis; 12 grand children and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Jeff and Josh Roberts, and a sister, Miss Myrtle Roberts, all of Monticello, Ky. Funeral and burial were help in Monticello, Ky., with Harvey Funeral home in charge of arrangements. James Nelson Coffey and Dicie Ann Roberts had the following children:
