5983. Emma Viola Coffey was born on 2 November 1888 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.¹⁹⁹⁵⁵ She lived with her parents in Globe Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 9 June 1900. Emma died on 22 November 1987 at the age of 99 in Watauga Co., NC and was buried at Boone Fork Community Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC.^19956,19957

Emma Viola Coffey and Emory Joel Young were married on 28 December 1907 in Watauga Co., NC.¹⁹⁹⁵⁸ Emory Joel Young¹⁹⁹⁵⁹, son of Solomon Woodson Young and Mary A. McCoin, was born on 4 April 1882 in North Carolina. He lived with his parents in Watauga Twp., Watauga Co., NC on 12 June 1900. Emory died of acute appendicitis on 14 March 1929 at the age of 46 in Statesville, Iredell Co., NC and was buried at Boone Fork Community Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC.¹⁹⁹⁶⁰

Funeral services were held last Friday at the Reformed Church here for Emory Young, whose death in Statesville was the result of complications following an attack of acute appendicitis. Mr. Young was rushed to Statesville when he became ill, but the operation was too late to save his life.

Mr. Young belonged to one of the most prominent and respected families of Blowing Rock. He is survived by his widow and eight children, all at home in Blowing Rock, and several brothers and sisters in various parts of the state. One brother, Edgar Young, lives in Blowing Rock. Mrs. Docia Blalock, Mrs. Young’s sister, has arrived here from Bend, Oregon, and will make her home here for a while. She is accompanied by her daughter Hazel, who has entered the junior class at Blowing Rock High School. Mrs. Blalock and Hazel are making their home with Mrs. Blalock’s niece, Mrs. J. Allen Gragg.

Howard Coles Young also had a daughter that I met only once. Her name was Deanna or Deana and in 1978 she was living in Bithlo Florida which is in east Orange County.

Charles Howell Young had three children - Kenneth, Larry and Mary. I can track down information about them. Aunt Ruby has passed and, given time, I can locate that info.

Mary Lou Young had one daughter, Evelyn. Evelyn was married to Doyle Shoemake. They had four children. To my knowledge Evelyn Shoemake is still living in or around Boone/Blowing Rock.

Thomas Wood Young, my daddy had two children. Rachael Yvonne Young was married to James Cushing of Ormond Beach Florida. They were divorced after having two children - Jimmy Cushing (married Angie don't know her last name) and had a son. Anglie was from Franklin Virginia They were divorced. Cherene Cushing married Larry Shaffer of Franklin, Virginia and they had three children Chase, Kimberly and Shelby. Larry passed away two weeks ago. My sister Yvonne, her children and grandchildren are living in Franklin Virginia.

Emery Hugh Young had two daughters. One is Gail and lives in Oklaholma. The other girl lives in South Carolina but I don't remember her name. Both had children.

Hardin Darrell Young had three sons - David, Paul and Darrell. I don't know where any of them are but David worked for the US Department of State as a teacher on military bases. Haven't heard from any of them in years.

Edgar Young's wife Lois is still alive in a nursing home/assisted living home in Boone.

James Wesley Young and Dorris Moody Patrick had a daughter named Sylvia. Sylvia may have been Uncle Wesley's stepdaughter. I don't think I can find out anything about her because everyone on that side of the family has passed away.
