Mr. Coffey was born June 14, 1928 in Caldwell County to the late Thomas and Alice Sanders Coffey. He was a carpenter and a member of the Boone Fork Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie Coffey; five daughters, Mrs. Cleta Buckner and Mrs. Carolyn Johnson, both of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Bonnie Pardue of Zionville, Mrs. Brenda Huffman of Blowing Rock, Miss Carla Coffey of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Nancy Pearson, Mrs. Ethel Coffey, Mrs. Mary Lois McCroskey and Mrs. Edna Mae Rich, all of Blowing Rock; two brothers, Pete and Palmer Coffey, both of blowing Rock; and one step-grandson, four grandsons and five granddaughters, including Miss Rachel Coffey of the home. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Boone Fork Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. David Austin and the Rev. Max West. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to the Boone Fork Baptist Church Building Fund. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Coffey; two brothers, Lonnie and Clayton Coffey and two grandchildren. She was a member of Sandy Flat Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Cleta) Buckner of Blowing rock, Mrs. Michael (Carolyn) Pasley of Crumpler, Mrs. Ralph (Bonnie) Faulkner of Atkins, Va., Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Kelin of Jefferson, Mrs. Lonnie (Carla) Taylor of Lenoir and Mrs. Randy (Rachel) Kelly of Jefferson City, Tenn.; three sisters, Bertha Akers of Cambridge, Md., Virginia Bailey of Quinton, Va. and Margaret Farley of Blowing rock; two brothers, Edward Coffey of Crestview, Fla. and Steve Coffey of Winston-Salem; 14 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren. The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sandy Flat Baptist Church with the Revs. George Berry and David Austin officiating. the body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Boone Fork Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home, and other times at the home of a daughter, Cleta Buckner, 412 Chestnut Trail, Blowing Rock.
