Dr. Velma Perkins PhD was born on 26 March 1916 in Burnside, Pulaski Co., KY. Velma died at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Pulaski Co., KY on 12 April 2009 and was buried at Rock Lick Baptist Church Cemetery in Somerset, Pulaski Co., KY on 14 April 2009 .26072

Velma Perkins, 93 years of age, of South Grandview Ave in Burnside, Kentucky, departed this life on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born in Burnside, Kentucky on March 26, 1916 the daughter of the late John M. Perkins and Gertrude Toby Perkins. She was a college professor at Andrew College in Georgia where she served as Academic Dean and St. Mary's College of Maryland where she taught for over 30 years, she was a graduate of Georgetown College in Kentucky. with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Peabody College in Tennessee with a Master's Degree and Ball State University in Indiana where she received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in English. Dr. Perkins was a member of First Baptist Church of Burnside, Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as a Regent, Pulaski Historical Society where she served as president, and a member of the Burnside Women's Club. She was survived by six cousins; Stella Hargis Hail, Eugene Hargis, Milton Toby, Mike Toby, John Robert Toby and Doris Eggers.

Her family received Friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Pulaski Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home, with Dr. John Mark Toby officiating.

Burial followed in the Rock Lick Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
