Cornelia Coffey and Rev. Thomas Nelson "Nelson" Coffey8690 were married on 23 March 1868 in Grainger Co., TN.8691 They8691 appeared in the census on 5 June 1880 in Grainger Co., TN.8692 Thomas, son of Caswell Coffey and Nancy Ann Jordan, was probably born in Hancock Co., TN on 25 December 1849.

If Nelson was a son of Annie Jordan from her marriage to Caswell Coffey, this birthdate seems in error. Annie died in Dec., 1849 and Nelson was born in 1850. However, some genealogies report his birth on 25 Dec., 1849 which is coincidentally the same date given for Annie's death.
He lived with his father in Hancock Co., TN on 21 November 1850.

In this census record he was enumerated as "Mlson."

Obituary From the Mulberry Gap Association 1898 Minutes

Sister Matilda Coffey, daughter of Elder T.N. Coffey and Cornelia Coffey, was born June 24, 1882 and died December 25, 1897. She professed faith in Christ, in her tenth years and joined the Baptist Church at Oak Hill where she was a bright light until her death. She was a good daughter, beloved by all who knew her. She said when she was first taken sick, that she would never get well, but bore her sickness with patience, and after suffering eighteen days. She fell asleep in the arms of Jesus to await the Restoration morning, when she shall rise in eternal splendor. She leaves a father, a step-mother, six brothers and three sisters to mourn her loss, but their loss is her eternal gain. So she has met her mother who preceded her to the land of bliss six years ago. John Gilbert, Chairman.
