SERVICES FOR HERBERT COFFEY

Funeral services were conducted at the Vandivier Funeral Home in Franklin Monday afternoon for Herbert Coffey, 70, father of Mrs. Merrill Ridpath and Mrs. Harold Gill of Edinburgh, who died Thursday at Johnson County Memorial Hospital, after a several month' illness.

Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

A former Johnson County road superintendent and Franklin street commissioner, Mr. Coffey was born in Stilesville April 3, 1900, the son of Thomas and Della Allee Coffey and was married to the former Gladys Rike May 3, 1919. They lived in Indianapolis until 1933 when they moved to Franklin. Mrs. Coffey survives.

In August, 1970, Mr. Coffey retired from the state highway department. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, International Union of Operating Engineers and the American Legion.

Surviving in addition to the widow are three children, Mrs. Ridpath and Mrs. Gill of Edinburg, and Richard H. Coffey of Denver, Colo; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Gladys died on 12 April 1996 at the age of 93 in Franklin, Johnson Co., IN and was buried at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, Johnson Co., IN.25010

Lillian P. Ridpath Lee, 88, Franklin

Lillian P. Ridpath Lee, 88, of Franklin died at 8:15 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.

Mrs. Lee retired after 35 years as a government inspector for Arvin Industries in Columbus. She was a 1938 graduate of Franklin High School.

A member of Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin, Women of the Moose No. 456 in Columbus and Franklin Order of the Eastern Star No. 439, she also was a life member of Edinburgh American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She loved to cook, work the Jumble puzzle in the Indianapolis Star and watch the birds and squirrels around her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home in Edinburgh with the Rev. Glenn Beck officiating. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edinburgh American Legion Auxiliary No. 233, 500 Memorial Dr., Edinburgh, IN 46124; or to the donor's choice of charities.

Born in Morgan County March 4, 1920, Mrs. Lee was the daughter of William H. and Gladys I. Rike Coffey. She was the widow of Merrill S. Ridpath, who died in 1971, and James Lee, who died in 2001.

She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte (Marshall) Whited of Edinburgh; stepsons, David (Sarah) Lee of Greenwood and Dennis (Terri) Lee of Frazeysburg, Ohio; a brother, Richard H. (Gretchen) Coffey of Colorado; a nephew, Steve (Beverly) Shriver of Edinburgh; a grandson, Mark Whited of Manchester, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Shayna and Mathew Whited; a great-great-grandson, Carlos Whited; and several other stepgrandchildren.

Others who preceded her in death include a sister, Evelyn Shriver Gill; and a granddaughter, Linn Irene Whited.

Evelyn Irene (Coffee) Gill

Evelyn Irene (Coffee) Gill, 79, died Friday, June 29, 2001, at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Edinburgh.

She was born July 20, 1921, in Mooresville. Her parents were William Herbert and Gladys Irene (Rike) Coffee. She married Warren Frank Shriver in 1940. He was killed during the World War II Battle of Lette Gulf. She married Harold Britton "Speed" Gill on July 20, 1947, in Edinburgh. He preceded her in death April 8, 1997. Survivors include three sons, Stephan Warren Shriver of Edinburgh, Jamie Allen Gill of Delta, Ohio, and Christopher Logan Gill of Columbus; one sister, Lillian Pearl Lee of Franklin; and one brother, Richard Herbert Coffee of Boulder, Colo.

She was a cosmetologist.

She enjoyed sewing, dancing and playing bridge.

She was a 50-year member of First Christian Church of Edinburgh. She was past president of CWF and was a 50-year member and past worthy matron of OES 340 in Edinburgh and OES 439 in Franklin. She was a member of Women's VFW Auxiliary Lind-Hill Post 7964 in Edinburgh, Edinburgh Legion Auxiliary 233 and the Friendly Homemakers Club in Franklin. She held a state office in the American War Mothers.

The Rev. Steve DeFields-Gambrel will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home in Franklin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where OES Franklin Chapter 439 will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
