Alice was a homemaker except for 15 years when she was employed by Old American Insurance Co. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Albany for many years. Alice was married in 1925 to Dewey R. Coffey. She was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers, a sister, a granddaughter and a great-grandson. Survivors: two sons, James M. Coffey, Apache Junction, Ariz.; and Garnett D. Coffey, Albany; three daughters, Norma Deason and Jessie Manring, Albany; Marjorie Dale, Kimberling City, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ermal Clark, Jacksonville, Texas; and Uva Thomas, Danville, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service with military honors was held Saturday, November 10, 2012 in Albany, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice (Quinn) and Dewey Coffey and his oldest grandchild, Christopher Chandler. Marvin was born and raised in northwest Missouri. While attending Albany High School he became a standout athlete. He graduated in 1944 and was drafted into military service that same year. While serving in the 70th Division, 275th Regiment, Company F of the U.S. Army, he was deployed to France and Germany until he was seriously injured in February of 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After returning home from the war he earned his BA and MA in education from the University of Missouri and Northwest Missouri State University respectively. Throughout Marvin's 33 years as an educator he never lost sight of his students. He possessed a "gift" when it came to daily interaction with students. His consistent, compassionate manner was highly respected by thousands of students whose lives were touched by Mr. Coffey. From being a teacher, coach, principal, athletic director and superintendent of schools, Marvin's dedication to his profession was never in question. He married Carol Lee Kidney in 1952. Marvin and Carol made their home in Missouri prior to moving to Longmont, CO in 1964. After many years, they divorced, remaining friends. In 1996 he married Marietta Wilson. Marvin is survived by his wife Marietta of Bethany, MO, Carol Coffey of Longmont, CO, daughter Debbie Tucker (Ron Berry) of Longmont, son Steve Coffey (Debbie) of Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Matt Chandler (Kelly) of Windsor, CO, Trevor Coffey and Natalie Coffey both of Loveland, CO and great granddaughters Hanna, Sara, Emma Chandler of Windsor, CO. He is also survived by his four siblings, Norma Ruth Deason, Jessie (Jerald) Manring, Marjorie (Dick) Dale, and Garney (Charlene) Coffey all of Missouri. Marvin was a kind and honorable man and always a fighter, from WWII injuries to his last days. He loved his family and they him.
