Earl Lemuel McCroskey, 57, of Route 8, Lenoir, died Sunday afternoon enroute to a local hospital.

Mr. McCroskey was born Feb. 6, 1909, in Watauga County, and was a son of the late Wiley McCroskey and Elnora Wright McCroskey. He was a carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Boone Fork Baptist Church in Watauga County by Rev. Carson Eggers and Rev. Lewis Hodges. Burial will be in White Springs Cemetery.

The body was to be taken from Warren-Miller Funeral Home to the residence at 4 p.m. today.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Lois McCroskey of the home; three sons, Roger McCroskey of Route 5, Lenoir, and Daniel and David McCroskey, both of Hudson; four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Harrison of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Jessie Estle and Joy McCroskey of the home; one brother, Lois McCroskey of Route 7, Lenoir; and four sisters, Mrs. Sam Woodie of Newland, Mrs. Mac Coffey of Blowing Rock, and Mrs. Clarence Townsend and Mrs. Floyd Whisenhunt, both of Route 7, Lenoir.

Earl Lemuel McCroskey and Gladys K. Hatley were married on 30 November 1929 in Boone, Watauga Co., NC.³⁶⁵⁶⁹ They³⁶⁵⁶⁹ lived with her widowed mother in Globe Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 15 April 1930. Gladys K. Hatley, daughter of Jackson Sidney Hatley and Charity Drucilla Phillips, was born on 31 March 1911 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC. Gladys died on 26 November 1988 at the age of 77 in Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN and was buried at Boone Fork Community Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC.³⁶⁵⁷⁰

Mary Lois McCroskey

Mrs. Mary Lois McCroskey, 79, of 6130 Highway 221 South, Blowing Rock, died Saturday night, April 16, 2005, at Blowing Rock Hospital.

She was born March 10, 1926, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Thomas LeRoy and Alice Sanders Coffey.

Mrs. McCroskey was a member of First Independent Baptist Church in Blowing Rock.

Survivors include two daughters, Estie Ruppard and husband, Dwight, of Blowing Rock, and Joy Martinez and husband, Tony, of Granite Falls; one son, Mitchell Coffey of Blowing Rock; two step-sons, Roger McCroskey and Daniel McCroskey, both of Hudson. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl McCroskey; one daughter, Jessie Price; one step-daughter, Louise Harrison; one step-son, David McCroskey; two granddaughters, Lisa and Tammy Coffey; four sisters; and four brothers.

Services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Darrell Miller and the Rev. Vance Triplett. Burial will follow in White Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service. At other times, friends may call at the McCroskey residence, 6130 Highway 221 South, Blowing Rock.

Hampton Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
