Lee Roy Coffey

LENOIR - Lee Roy Coffey, 80, of Lenoir, passed away suddenly on Saturday morning, June 10, 2006, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Born Feb. 9, 1926, in Lenoir, he was a son of the late Lanese Tuttle and Ethel Lovelace Coffey. Mr. Coffey served in the Pacific during World War II for the U.S. Navy and retired as a plant manager for Broyhill Furniture. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen McLeod Coffey, in 2003, and by five brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by a son, Kenneth Coffey of Lenoir; two daughters, Shirley Coffey Teeters and husband, Larry, of Lenoir, and Susan Coffey Thomas and husband, Scott, of Raleigh; a brother, Doyle Coffey and wife, Ruth, of Lenoir; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be scheduled for a later date at Union Baptist Church in Lenoir. Memorials may be made to the Union Baptist Cemetery fund, 4595 Union Road, Lenoir, N.C. 28645.

Arrangement are with Mitchell Funeral Homes in Raleigh and Greer-McElveen Funeral Home in Lenoir.

Lee Roy Coffey and Mary Ellen McLeod were married. Mary Ellen McLeod, daughter of Calvin Jones McLeod and Jessie S. Reid, was born on 31 July 1929 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.32675,32676 Mary died in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 30 March 2003.32677

MARY ELLEN MCLEOD COFFEY

Mary Ellen McLeod Coffey, 73, of Union Baptist Road, Lenoir, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at the residence.

She was born July 31, 1929, in Caldwell County to the late Calvin Jones and Jesse Reid McLeod. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Glen McLeod and George Bumgarner McLeod.

She was a retired nurse at Alexander County Hospital, was a former Deputy Clerk of Court with Caldwell County, and an active member of Union Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Roy Coffey of the home; a son, Kenneth George Coffey of Lenoir; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Shirley) Teeters of Lenoir and Susan Coffey Thomas of Raleigh; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral is 3 p.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Denning officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Parker, Alan Reid, Alan Penley, Steve Hollar, Greg White and Carl Anderson.

Kenneth George Coffey was born on 12 September 1952 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC. Kenneth died in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 9 April 2007.

Kenneth George Coffey, 54, of Union Baptist Road, Lenoir, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Valdese General Hospital.

He was born Sept. 12, 1952, in Caldwell County to the late Lee Roy and Mary Ellen McLeod Coffey.

Mr. Coffey was employed at Valdese General Hospital and was formerly employed with Broyhill Main Office for more than 20 years. He was a former Director of the Western North Carolina Chapter of the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and a member of Union Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Neil McKinley Coffey of the home; a daughter, Ms. Sara Elizabeth Coffey of Lenoir; two sisters, Mrs. Susan C. Thomas of Raleigh and Mrs. Shirley C. Teeters of Lenoir; and a grandchild, Cid McLeod Wyer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007, at 6 p.m at Union Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Myron Davis.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, 699 Prince St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
