She was born June 20, 1923, in Caldwell County to the late Bud and Belle Radar Rhodes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Coffey; two sons, Johnny Smith and Freddie Smith; one daughter, Sue Fairchild; and two sisters, Ruth McNeely and Cecile Cannon. Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker and a member of Hartland Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Richard Coffey and Barbara of Hildebran; one daughter, Paula Pennell and husband Lynn of Lenoir; one sister, Fay Throneburg of Morganton; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral ser vices will be held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Hartland Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Steve Parker. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. one hour prior to the service at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Shawn Smith, Darren Smith, Keith Coffey, Dale Bennett, Adam Boliek and Colt Pennell.
