Mr. Johnston was born June 11, 1917 in Wilkes County to John I. and Ida Moore Johnston. He was owner and operator of Pinedale Garage and Radiator Shop in North Wilkesboro and was a member and ordained deacon of Liberty Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his wife, Arietta Johnston of the home; one daughter, one son, one step-daughter, two sisters, three brothers, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
