Ollie Hollander

Ollie Mae Coffey Hollander, 98, of Lenoir, N.C., passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Shaire Center Rest Home.

She was born Sept. 21, 1908, in Avery County to the late John Sherman Coffey and Beuna Vista Coffey. Mrs. Hollander is preceded in death, other than her parents, by her husband, Maynard Hollander; a daughter, Betty June Hollander Brooks and husband M.G. Brooks Jr. ; also five sisters, Cordelia Coffey, Onie Gragg, Cenie Coffey, Colene Annas and Molly Jones; and two brothers, Cuby Coffey and Willie “Bill” Coffey.

Mrs. Hollander graduated Newland High School in 1929, then went on to receive a Bachelors of Science from Appalachian Academy in Boone, a Masters of Education in Elementary Education at Appalachian State Teachers' College in Boone. She was a retired school teacher who taught for 41 years in Avery and Caldwell counties, a member of Edgemont Baptist Church and Caldwell County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Hollander Coffey and husband Dennis of Hudson; a brother, Horace Coffey of Lenoir; five sisters, Mildred Holland of Goldsboro, N.C., Delores Gregg of Beckley, W.Va., Lorene Corley of Hudson, Doris Setzer of Lenoir, and Carolyn Morgan of Matthews, N.C.; three grandchildren, Guy Brooks and wife Ann of Raleigh, N.C., Mark Brooks and wife Pat of Shelby, N.C., and Dennis Coffey II of Charlotte; four great-grandchildren Steven and Jeffrey Brooks of Raleigh, and Collin and Ben Brooks of Shelby; 18 nieces and 25 nephews and a grand-dog, Sugar.

The family will receive friends today from 3 until 4 p.m.

Services will be at 4 p.m. at Pendry's Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Mountainside Section.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Guy Brooks, Mark Brooks and Dennis Coffey II, and great-grandsons, Steven Brooks, Jeffrey Brooks, Collin Brooks and Ben Brooks.

Ray Hollander

Ray Maynard Hollander, 93, of Meadowview Place, Lenoir, N.C. and Shaire Center died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 13, 1911 in Avery County, N.C. to the late Henry Hollander and Jane Webb Hollander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver Hollander and Jimmy Hollander and three sisters, Etta Coffey, Bertha Clark and Katherine Clark.

Mr. Hollander was retired, a deacon and member of Edgemont Baptist Church. He was on the Civilian Conservation Corp.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ollie L. Hollander of the home; a daughter, Sandra Hollander Coffey and husband Dennis of Hudson; a brother, Ronald Hollander of Hickory, N.C.; three sisters, May Chilcott of Durham, N.C., Dovie Plaster of Maryland and Virginia Chilcott of Hickory; three grandchildren, Guy Brooks and wife Ann of Raleigh, N.C., Mark Brooks and wife Pat of Shelby, N.C. and Dennis E. Coffey II of Hudson, N.C. and four great-grandchildren, Steven and Jeffrey Brooks of Raleigh, N.C. and Collin and Ben Brooks of Shelby, N.C.

Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Pendry's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nicky Waters and Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Pendry's.
