A native of Avery County, she was born September 15, 1914, a daughter of the late Jeff W. and Elzora Underwood Hartley. She was a homemaker and member of the Avery United Methodist Church Parish. Mrs. Coffey was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Hugh Coffey in 1979. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joann and John Miller of Newland; granddaughters, Sandy Wilkins of Roan Mountain, TN, Patti Miller of Zionville; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Cole of Newland; great-grandson, Matthew Wilkins of Boone; sister, Dot H. Townsend of Linville; brother, Alfred Hartley of Rocky Mount, VA; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Margaret Hartley Coffey will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 5, from the Grandfather Chapel of the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Rev. Roland Mullinix, Mr. Robert Hartley and Rev. Ernest Dean officiating. Music will be under the direction Mr. Tommy Hartley. Interment will follow in the Tanglewood Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until the service hour Sunday at the funeral home.
