Floyd Dallas Greene, son of Arl Banner Greene and Myrtle Forbes, was born on 25 July 1926 in Linville, Avery Co., NC.46411 Floyd enlisted in the US Army on 11 October 1945 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.46412 Floyd died on 6 September 2008 at the age of 82 at Watauga Medical Center in Watauga Co., NC and was buried at Tanglewood Cemetery in Linville, Avery Co., NC on 9 September 2008.46413 Obituary, The Watauga Democrat, Sep. 11, 2008 Floyd Dallas Greene Mr. Floyd Dallas Greene, 82, of Linville, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Watauga Medical Center. An Avery County native, he was born a son of the late Arl Danner Greene, Sr. and Myrtle Forbes Greene. Mr. Greene was a charter member of the Linville Evangelical Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Stewards and as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a charter member of the Linville Volunteer Fire Department where he served as treasurer, was a past member of the Lions Club and a former chairman of Tanglewood Cemetery Committee. He also served as an Avery County Commissioner in the seventies. Mr. Greene thoroughly enjoyed golf and was a member of the Over The Hill Gang at Mountain Glenn. He worked as a retail grocer for 27 years at Greenes Food Center in Linville. He drove the shuttle bus for groups on Grandfather Mountain for ten years. Mr. Greene was a very giving and unselfish man who was always there for his family and friends. He was a family man, who enjoyed anytime his family was together especially on Thanksgiving when he would go with his family rabbit hunting. Survivors include his daughter, Jane Daniels of Linville, N.C.; his two sons, Joe and wife, Karen Greene, of Burlington, N.C. and Jim Greene of Elk Park, N.C.; sisters, Martha Henley and husband, Jim, of Hollywood, Md., Betty Wright of Linville, N.C., Rosa Hartley and husband, Jay, of Ft. Mill, S.C., and Shirley Snow and husband, Guy, of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Carl Greene of Kannapolis, N.C.; aunt, Thelma Hampton of Linville, N.C.; and his uncle, Anderson Greene and wife, Lib, of Montezuma, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by; his wife, Wilma Coffey Greene; brothers, Bernard R. Greene, Julian F. Greene, John L. Greene and Arl D. Greene, Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Connie Greene. The Greene family will receive friends on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, from 6-9 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Linville Evangelical Methodist Church. Dr. Ken Harper, Mr. Crae Morton and Mr. Jim Greene will officiate. Interment will follow in the Tanglewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society at 4-A Oak Branch Drive Greensboro, N.C. 27407 with reference to Floyd Greene from Avery County.
