He was born April 16, 1939, in Caldwell County to Lena Bristol Coffey of the home and the late Harland [sic] Coffey, Sr. He was also preceded in death by one son, Eric Coffey. Mr. Coffey was a retired machine operator and a member of the N.C. Army National Guard. He was a member of the Church of God Prophecy. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Carolyn Virginia Day Coffey of the home; four sons; Norman Coffey, John Coffey, Gary Coffey and Scott Coffey; all of Lenoir; one daughter, Teresa Lynn Hartley of Lenoir; one brother, Pete Coffey of Lenoir; four sisters; Lorene Poarch of Sawmills, Kathy Clawson of Granite Falls, Carolyn Roane of Morganton and Susan Carswell of Drexel; and four grandchildren. The funeral is 11 a.m. today at Pendry's Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Raymomd Talton and Clifton Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. She was born March 3, 1939 in Caldwell County to the late John Alvin and Delia Bell Day. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Coffey; one son, Eric Coffey; eight brothers; and one sister. Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker and attended Hartland Methodist Church. Survivors include four sons, John Coffey, Gary Coffey and wife Elishia, Norman Coffey and Scott Coffey, all of Lenoir; one daughter, Teresa “Lynn” Hartley and husband Ray of Lenoir; three sisters, Shirley Wells and husband Paul of Elkin, Pansy Pritchard and Lorraine Moore, both of Lenoir; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Steve Butler. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir. The family will receive friends Monday, May 7, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Nelson, Matt Coffey, Eric Coffey, Mike Moore, Keith Day and Steve Benfield.
