He was born April 15, 1913, in Caldwell County to the late William Jefferson Austin and Mary Coffey Austin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Iona Miller Austin, and three brothers, Earl, Lester and Herbert Austin. He was retired from Singer Furniture and was a member of Yadkin Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Austin of Granite Falls, and a sister, Viola Smith of Lenoir. The funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Yadkin Baptist Church with the Revs. Robert Livingston and Gary James officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
