Born August 8, 1937 in Wise, VA, Mrs. Coffey was a daughter of the late Earl and Dona C. Lawson and the wife of the late George Thomas Coffey, Sr. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine Winebarger; one sister, Nancy Kilgore; one son-in-law, Michael Jordan and one grandson, Joshua Miller. Mrs. Coffey was a member of Lenoir First Free Will Baptist Church. She had worked as a nursing assistant with Caldwell Memorial Hospital for seven years and was a caregiver to several in our community. She is survived by one son, George Thomas Coffey, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; three daughters, Edna King and husband Dwayne and Jeanie Jordan all of Lenoir and Judy Ann Miller and husband Dennis of Banner Elk; three brothers, Charles Lawson of Big Stone Gap, VA, Douglas Lawson of Natural Bridge, VA and Johnnie Lawson of Eagle Rock, VA; two sisters, Margaret Feltner of Celina, OH and Betty Butler of Royal Oak, Michigan; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Coffey's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Lenoir First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Moses officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007 at Lenoir First Free Will Baptist Church, Hwy 18, Morganton Blvd. Pallbearers will be: James Coffey, Paul Coffey, George Coffey, David Hunter, Mark Butler and Jeff Lawson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Timothy Kilgore. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
