Coffey Former nurseryman Leonard Gilbert Coffey, 78, of the Star Route, Lenoir, died Sunday at Caldwell Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Coffey was born Feb. 10, 1907 in Caldwell County and was the son of the late David and Destamonia Crump Coffey. He was a retired nurseryman and furniture worker and a member of West Lenoir Baptist Church. Survivors are: his wife, Beulah C. Coffey of the home; a son, A.C. (Clayton) Coffey of Lenoir; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Shoemake of Lenoir; two brothers, Howard Coffey of Lenoir and Dellard Coffey of Boone; a sister, Verleen Beck of Granite Falls; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild. Mr. Coffey was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Coffey. Leonard Gilbert Coffey and Beulah Bertha Crump were married on 28 March 1936 in Vera, Appomattox Co., VA.35885 Beulah Bertha Crump, daughter of Boston Crump and Reddy Woodruff, was born on 26 July 1919 in Prince Edward Co., VA. Beulah died on 26 July 1998 at the age of 79 at Blowing Rock Hospital in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC and was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 29 July 1998.35886,35887 Obituary Mrs. Beulah Crump Coffey, age 79, of Lenoir the Globe Community, widow of Leonard Coffey, died Sunday, July 26, at Blowing Rock Hospital. Mrs. Coffey was born July 26, 1919, in Buckingham County, Virginia, to the late Boston and Betty Woodruff Crump. She was a [sic] retired from furniture manufacturing and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Coffey is survived by one son, A.C. Coffey of Lenoir; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Shoemake of Collettsville and one sister, Mrs. Zenna Vanderpool of Prospect, Virginia. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Robin Coffey, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Coffey; five brothers and four sisters. Services for Mrs. Coffey were conducted on Wednesday, July 29 at Pendry's Funeral Home Chapel in Lenoir. Officiating was the Rev. Johnny McCarty. Interment followed in Blue Ridge Memorial park.
