She was born May 30, 1931, in Avery County to the late Dewey Coffey and Elva Gragg Coffey. She was also preceded in death by one son, Herbert Edward Woodie; and one sister, Fostina Coffey. Mrs. Woodie was a homemaker and a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include two sons, Daniel Wayne Woodie of Kings Creek and Tony Allen Woodie of Gamewell; two daughters, Brenda Woodie Penley of Beaver Creek and Sandra Woodie Nelson of Hudson; her former husband, Herbert Woodie of Lenoir; one brother, George Hubert Coffey of Lenoir, five sisters, Essie Logan of Valdest, Dorothy "Dot" Dellinger, Ruby Greene and Nelda Coffey, all of Hudson, and Shirley Perry of Lenoir; and four grandchildren. The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Yount, Dewey Bristol and Ezekiel Barnes officiating. Burial will be in New Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery in Careys Flat. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home. He was born April 4, 1933, in Caldwell County to the late John Sylvester Woodie and May Woods Woodie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife Norma Coffey Woodie; and one son, Herbert Edward Woodie. Mr. Woodie was a member of Thanks for Calvary Church; he was retired from Singer Furniture and Griffith Security. Mr. Woodie is survived by his three sons, Daniel (Dan) Wayne Woodie and wife Janice, Tony Allen Woodie and wife Mattie, both of Lenoir, and Jonathan Chad Woodruff of Naples Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Penley and husband Rick of Boomer, and Mrs. Sandra Nelson and husband Neil of Hudson; two brothers, Truman and Willard Woodie, both of Lenoir; five sisters: Mrs. Zelma Robinson of Ohio, Mrs. Carolyn Anderson, Mrs. Jeanette Haire and Mrs. Elaine McDonald, all of Lenoir, and Mrs. Geneva Kincaid of Hudson. Grandchildren include Megan Rose Woodie, Christina Elizabeth Woodie, Victoria Anne Woodie, all of Lenoir, Lucas Richard Penley of Boomer, Kelsey Michelle Nelson and Alexandra Lee Nelson, both of Hudson. Great-grandchildren are Coby Thomas McCoun and Kylie Anniston McCoun of Hickory. He also is survived by special friends and caregivers, Marcia Dale Hamby and Rolanda Lovins. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and good friends. Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Charles Lingle and the Rev. Steve Walsh. Interment will follow at Grandin Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Monday evening at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Woodie, Dan Woodie, Chad Woodruff, Jack Kincaid, Gary Woodie and Larry Glen Robinson.
