A native and lifelong resident of Avery County, he was a son of the late Daniel and Jodie Coffey. Mr. Coffey retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 33 years of service as a supervisor. He was a member of the CCC, Edgemont Baptist Church and attended the Long Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Lou and Billy Jo Coffey. Survivors include his wife, Cenie Coffey of the home; two daughters, Nancy Earp of Granite Falls and Sherry Renee of Elk Park; five sons, Lloyd Coffey Jr. of Granite Falls, Ken Coffey, Tommy Coffey and Gerald Coffey of Gamewell and Randy Coffey of Linville; two sisters, Margie Coffey of Marion and Irene Woody of Jonas Ridge; two brothers, Howard Coffey of Statesville and Herman Coffey of Newland; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday from the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. John McCoury officiating. Interment will follow in the Roseboro[*] Cemetery.
