Hardy Coffey

Hardy Daniel Coffey, 94, of Laughridge Avenue, Valdese, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Shytle House of Valdese.

Mr. Coffey was born April 12, 1909, in Caldwell County to the late J. Partee Coffey and Pearl Tolbert Coffey. He is retired from the furniture industry. He was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church.

He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertrude B. Coffey; three brothers, Milton, Dallas and Junior Coffey; and a sister, Vergie Sumlin.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Bowman Coffey of the home; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Roy L. and Shelby Coffey of Lincolnton and Charles K. and Jaunella Coffey of Morganton; a daughter, Marie Absher of Morganton and two daughters and son-in-laws, Lena and Clarence Nichols of Granite Falls and Alma and Ralph Kincaid of Hudson; two sisters, Gertie Killian and Carrie Cook of Lenoir; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at Pendry's Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Stuart White officiating. Burial will be in the Rocky Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendry's Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Nichols, Dan Absher, Larry Absher, Gary Absher, Alan Coffey and Greg Kincaid.

Gertrude died at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC on 1 January 1967 of cardiac disease and was buried at Rocky Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Collettsville, Caldwell Co., NC on 3 January 1967 .^34941,34942
