Mrs. Lula McCroskey Whisenant

Mrs. Lula McCroskey Whisenant, 80, of Route 1, Blowing rock, a former resident of Colletsville, died Saturday evening, May 2, at Blowing Rock Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Whisenant was the widow of Floyd Whisenant and was a member of the Boone Form Baptist Church. She was born April 15, 1907 in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Wiley and Ella Nora Wright McCroskey.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including the Mae Woodie family of Jonas Ridge, the Ester and Mack Coffey family and the Earl and Mary Lois McCroskey family of Blowing Rock and the Edith Townsend family and Lawrence McCroskey family of Lenoir.

Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 at the Boone Form Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 11:30 until 2 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Everett Little. Burial will follow in the Boone Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 at Reins-Sturdivant.

Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Lula Nevada McCroskey and George Floyd Whisenant were married on 15 September 1956 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.³⁶⁵⁶³ George Floyd Whisenant, son of William Whisenant and Elizabeth Coffey, was born on 7 July 1906 in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC. George died of pulmonary edema on 20 August 1969 at the age of 63 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir, Caldwell Co., NC and was buried at Hudspeth Cemetery in Collettsville, Caldwell Co., NC on 22 August 1969.^36564,36565

Floyd's mother is said to be Elizabeth Coffey, but her parents are not known.
