Bessie Carswell

Bessie Lucille Coffey Carswell, 64, of Valdese, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006.

She was born on July 29, 1941, in Avery County and was the daughter of Cora Clark Coffey and the late Perry Elmore Coffey, who was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI.

Mrs. Carswell was a homemaker and a member of United Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James M. Carswell; her mother, Cora Clark Coffey of Lenoir; one son, Kenneth Ray Carswell of Valdese; one daughter, Karen D. Carswell of Morganton; two sisters, Viola Cox and Violet Passmore, both of Lenoir; and two grandchildren, Terry J. Carswell of Valdese and Brandon R. Carswell of Morganton.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin M. Coffey, Floyd N. Coffey and Perry J. Coffey.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the United Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Morton presiding.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Bessie Lucille Coffey and James Marshall Carswell were married. James Marshall Carswell, son of James Byard Carswell and Ocie Chapman, was born on 4 August 1934 in Burke Co., NC. James died in Burke Co., NC on 10 July 2011 and wasa buried at United Baptist Church Cemetery in Valdese, Burke Co., NC in July 2011 .³⁵³⁰³
