She was born on July 29, 1941, in Avery County and was the daughter of Cora Clark Coffey and the late Perry Elmore Coffey, who was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI. Mrs. Carswell was a homemaker and a member of United Baptist Church. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin M. Coffey, Floyd N. Coffey and Perry J. Coffey. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the United Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Morton presiding. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.
