Frank Coffey

Mr. Rufus Franklin "Frank" Coffey, age 88, of 611 Winkler's Creek Road in Boone, died Friday night, October 1, at Blowing Rock Hospital.

Mr. Coffey was born March 11, 1911, in Granite Falls in Caldwell County, a son of the late Charles M. and Ethel Deal Coffey. He retired as general foreman from Carolina Northwestern Railroad in Hickory and was vice-president and former chief engineer of Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Hickory Masonic Lodge no. 343. Mr. Coffey was also a Shriner.

Mr. Coffey is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kathryn Barger Coffey of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Jean Holdren and husband, Thomas, of Tallahassee, Florida; Ms. Carol Jarvis of Charlotte; Mrs. Phyllis Carson and husband, Doug, of Boone, and Ms. Kathy Roberts of Henderson, Texas; and one sister, Mrs. Betty Nou of Livermore, California. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. he was preceded in death by four brothers, John Coffey, Charles Coffey, Edward Coffey and Everett Coffey.

A memorial service was conducted on Tuesday, October 5 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Entombment was private at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 115 East King Street, Boone, N.C. 28607 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Rufus Franklin "Frank" Coffey and Katherine Alice Barger were married. Katherine Alice Barger, daughter of George Thomas Barger and Alice Leona Spencer, was born on 15 July 1912 in Catawba Co., NC. Katherine died on 20 October 2007 at the age of 95 in Boone, Watauga Co., NC and was buried at Mountlawn Memorial Park and Gardens in Boone, Watauga Co., NC.^30882,44213

Kathryn Alice Barger Coffey

Mrs. Kathryn Alice Barger Coffey, 95, of 163 Shadowline Drive, Boone, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at her residence.

She was born July 15, 1912 in Catawba County, a daughter of the late George Thomas and Alice Leona Spencer Barger.

Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker and a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Boone.

Survivors include four daughters, Jean Hart and husband, Jake, of Arlington, Texas, Carol Jarvis of Fort Mill, S.C., Phyllis Carson and husband, Doug, of Boone, and Kathy Randolph and husband, Larry, of Kilgore, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. Frank Coffey; her father and mother, George Thomas and Alice Leona Spencer Barger; one sister and four brothers.

A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2007, at 11:00 o'clock, at Grace Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Smith and Vicar Dave Wegner. Entombment will be in the Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends following the service at Grace Lutheran Church.
