Rites held for Mr. Dula

Clyde Lester Dula, age 80, of Blowing Rock died Thursday in Blowing Rock Hospital after an extended illness.

Mr. Dula was born in Watauga County to Arthur and Mary Jane Coffey Dula. He was a retired fuel oil distributor having been employed by the Colvard Oil Company for thirty-four years. He served on the Blowing Rock Town Council for eight years and the local Recreation Commission for several years. He also served as Elder at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Gwendolyn Coffey Dula of Blowing Rock; four daughters, Mrs. Elyse Milum of Lakeland, Florida, Mrs. John Broyhill of Blowing Rock, Miss Linda Dula of Blowing rock and Mrs. Mike Wilson of Boone; seven sisters, Mrs. Aileen Gragg of Boone, Mrs. W. H. Estes of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Beatrice Lentz of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Murray Coffey of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Virginia Willis of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Estha Self of Eden, Mrs. J. T. Niehulson of Los Angeles, Calif. and one brother, Ernest Dula of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church by Rev. Richard Holshouser and Rev. George Stenhouse. burial was in the Blowing Rock City Cemetery.

Catherine died on 19 August 1997 at the age of 78 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC and was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock, Watauga Co., NC on 21 August 1997.36664,36665

Gwen C. Dula

Mrs. Catherine Gwendolyn Coffey Dula, age 78, of Rainey Street, Blowing Rock, died Tuesday evening, August 19 at the N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Dula was born August 1, 1919 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Austin Blaine and Emma Mahaley Harris Coffey. She was a member of the Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a retired employee of Tweetsie Railroad theme park, having served as a ticket clerk for over twenty-six years.

Mrs. Dula is survived by three daughters, Ms. Gail Pitts of Blowing Rock, Mrs. Linda McCulloch of Millers Creek and Cathy Wilson of Boone; two brothers, Mr. Hardin Coffey and the Rev. Murray Coffey, both of Blowing Rock; four grandchildren, Chris Pitts of Charlotte, Ricky Pitts of Raleigh, Haley Wilson of Boone and Derrick McCulloch of Miller Creek; and two great-grandchildren, Steven Wyatt Pitts and Elizabeth Ann Pitts. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Lester Dula.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dula were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church in Blowing Rock. Officiating were Dr. James Stuart, the Rev. Richard Holshouser and the Rev. Gordon Noble.

Memorials may be made to the Blue Ridge Advent Church Cemetery fund in care of Murray Coffey, 157 Murray Coffey Road, Blowing Rock, N.C. 28605.

Austin & Barnes Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
