2133. William Taylor "Taylor" Gragg was born on 27 May 1846 in Caldwell Co. or Burke Co., NC. He lived with his mother in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC on 29 July 1850. He lived with his mother in Johns River Twp., Caldwell Co., NC on 23 July 1860. Taylor lived with his mother in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC on 5 August 1870. William died of grippe on 4 November 1925 at the age of 79 in Wilson Creek Twp., Avery Co., NC and was buried at Gragg Cemetery in Gragg, Avery Co., NC on 4 November 1925.^{7977,7978,7979}

William Taylor "Taylor" Gragg and Eizabeth E. Pendly were married on 20 February 1875 in Yadkin Valley, Caldwell Co., NC.^7980,7981 They^7980,7981 appeared in the census on 18 June 1880 in Globe Twp., Caldwell Co., NC.⁷⁹⁸² Eizabeth E. Pendly, daughter of William Pendly and Harriet , was born in 1857 in Burke Co., NC. Eizabeth died in Caldwell Co., NC in 1889 and her burial site is unknown to me.

William Taylor "Taylor" Gragg and Eizabeth E. Pendly had the following children:

William Taylor "Taylor" Gragg and Elizabeth "Betty" Turnmire were married on 15 March 1890 in Lovelady Twp., Caldwell Co., NC.⁷⁹⁸³

The 1900 census lists him with a new wife named Larer [sic] E. They had been married 12 years and had three children. Larar E. was age 33, meaning that she was born in NC c1867 Assuming that Larer is Laura, I find no Laura Turnmire born around that time. There was an Elizabeth Turnmire, age 3, with her family - Joseph and Jamima Turnmire - in Lovelady, Summers Twp., Caldwell Co. in 1870.

Some genealogies name him as William Taylor "Jim" Gragg or, General Taylor Gragg and give him only one wife named Elizabeth "Betty" Turnmire Pendley.

There is a death certificate in Caldwell Co. for Dora Jane Woodruff, born Feb. 15, 1900 and whose parents were Jim Gragg and Betty Turnimire. There is also a death certificate in that county for Joseph Alexander Gragg, born Mar. 10, 1891 to Taylor Gragg and a wife with maiden name of Turnmire.

Likewise, a Caldwell Co. death certificate for James Madison Gragg, born Aug. 8, 1893, died Dec. 30, 1949, names his parents as Taylor Gragg and Betty Turnmire.

William Taylor Gragg had other children:

The Caldwell county birth and death record for Lee Ella Gragg reports her parents as Taylor Gragg and Elizabeth Penley [sic]. She was born in 1876. When she died in 1966 her parents were listed as Taylor and Elizabeth Gragg.

Also in Caldwell county is a birth record for Lula Savannah Gragg, born 1882 to Elizabeth Penley [sic] and William Taylor Gragg.

And finally, there is a Caldwell birth record for William Taylor Gragg, born 1885 to Elizabeth Penley and Taylor Gragg.

The Caldwell records contain a marriage record for a General Taylor Gragg to Elizabeth Turnmire in 1890. So far however, there is no evidence linking General Taylor Gragg to William Taylor Gragg. They⁷⁹⁸³ appeared in the census on 5 June 1900 in Globe Twp., Caldwell Co., NC.⁷⁹⁸⁴ Elizabeth "Betty" Turnmire, daughter of J. A. Turnmire and Christina , was born circa 1867 in North Carolina.
