She was a stay-at-home mother of 3 sons and the wife of the late Harry S. Hayes to whom she was married for 71 years prior to his death. She was the daughter of the late Walter Gwynn and Julia H. Coffey of Watauga County, NC. Also preceding her in death were a son Ed, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Walter S. 'Steve' Hayes (Pam) and David L. Hayes (Debbie), both of Charlotte, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Hayes will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Forest Lawn West Chapel with Reverend Dr. Charles Foushee and Reverend L. J. Mills officiating. Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
