Staunton - Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Rhodes, of Waynesboro, announce the marriage of their daughter, Mary, to Herbert Coffey, of Stuarts Draft. The ceremony took place Saturday afternoon, May 16, at 3 o'clock at the residence of the Rev. D. B. Garber, pastor of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. Mr. and Mrs. Coffey will reside in Waynesboro.
Mary Louise Rhodes, daughter of William E. Rhodes and Bertie V. Cox, was born on 1 July 1925 in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA. Mary died at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation in Augusta Co., VA on 17 September 2011 and was buried at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Independent City, VA on 20 September 2011 .30071

Mary Louise (Rhodes) Coffey, 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since December 20, 2008. Mary was born in Waynesboro on July 1, 1925, the daughter of the late William E. and Bertie V. (Cox) Rhodes. She was the youngest of her siblings which included three brothers and five sisters. On May 16, 1942, she married Herbert Hall Coffey. To celebrate their marriage; they went to a movie at the Cavalier Theater, Waynesboro. They started their life together at 1028 New Hope Road in Waynesboro. Our Mother lived at this residence her entire life until her health started to decline in 2008 due to Lewey Body Dementia. Mary worked as a waitress at Fauber’s Delicatessen and the General Wayne Hotel before she became one of the first ten women hired at the new General Electric Plant in 1954 as an inspector. She retired from Genicom Corporation in 1987. She was an active member of Free Methodist Church, Waynesboro. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by granddaughter, Carissa Dawn Coffey; five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her children Sandra Harper and husband Charles of Stuarts Draft; Wayne Coffey and wife Brenda of Waynesboro and Kathy Coffey of Harrisonburg. Grandchildren and great grandchildren left to cherish her memory are: Jill Hatter and husband Ben of Fishersville, their sons, Benjamin Hatter and his wife Jessica of Waynesboro and Austin Hatter of Staunton; Amy Wolff and husband Mark and their children Hannah, Samuel, Wesley and Michael of Wasilla, Alaska; Nikki Brown and husband Chris of Waynesboro and children, Emberli McGann, Ariana Coffey and Noah Brown; Derek Coffey and wife Morgan and children Raegan and Trenton of Stuarts Draft; Kerri Morris and husband Josh and sons Koen and Tyson of Fishersville. Mary is also survived by a brother, Malcolm Rhodes of Mt. Rainer, MD; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Waynesboro Free Methodist Church, 600 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, with Pastor David Kurtz officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Derek Coffey, Josh Morris, Chris Brown, Benjamin Hatter, Austin Hatter and Henry Wingfield. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Valley Mission Inc., 1513 West Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401 or the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, P.O.
