Born May 4, 1911, in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Part and Pearl Tolbert Coffey. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, he retired as a furniture worker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rich Coffey; two brothers, Dal Coffey and Junior Coffey; and a sister, Vergie Carpenter. Survivors include a brother, Hardy Coffey of Valdese; two sisters Gertie Killian of Edgemont and Carrie Cook of Lenoir; a grandchild; and a great grandchild. The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Dyson at 2 p.m. Monday at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rich Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ira Sumlin, Bobby Story, Jeff Story, Joel Coffey, Timmy Williams and Tracy Sumlin. The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
