Etta Coffey Meeks Gilbert

Etta Coffey Meeks Gilbert, 95, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at her home. Mrs. Gilbert was born on February 21, 1910 in Amherst County and was a daughter of the late Henry Coffey and Alice Ward Coffey. She was a member of the First Brethren Church in Buena Vista and was retired from Southern Seminary College. Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her first husband, John W. Meeks; her second husband, Eddie C. Gilbert; one son, Claude E. Gilbert; four daughters, Mary Meeks Bowen, Della Meeks Frank, Peggy Meeks Dabney and Barbara Meeks Staton; six brothers; six sisters; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and one great-grandson. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by three daughters, Frances Gilbert of Buena Vista, Pat Wampler and husband Daryll of Buena Vista, and Betty Kelly of Portersville, Calif.; two sisters, Georgie Henson and Audrey Staton, both of Buena Vista; one sister-in-law, Verna Gilbert Hall, of Chester; 30 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel with her grandson, Pastor Howard Slough, and Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service, Buena Vista.
