Jan. 6.- After a sixteen-mile race in an automobile with a passenger train, Dr. J. S. Latta of Kenesaw, defeated what is alleged to have been an attempt to kidnap the 4-year-old son of George Coffey. "A few moments after the east-bound passenger train pulled out of Kenesaw Christmas afternoon, Dr. Latta climbed into a touring car and started pursuit. The race was about even to the first station, the train moving off just before the auto arrived. At Hastings, however, the train was overtaken and the child recovered. "The race was the result of a woman's appeal. The boy had been carried away by Enoch Coffey of Junction City, Kan., his uncle. Mrs. George Coffey asked Latta to overtake the two and he started as they were leaving. "Enoch Coffey insisted that he merely meant to take the child down the road a short distance and return with him on a later train." Willard Duane Coffey (Estes) and Rosalie F.
