Mr. Coffey was born on August 9, 1929, in Caldwell Co., to the late Bruce Glenn Coffey and Amy Moore Coffey. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lenoir. Mr. Coffey was a humble man who was always smiling and never complained. Mr. Coffey served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War and worked as a furniture repairman at Bernhardt Furniture Company, Inc. for 30 plus years. He was a treasured and loyal friend, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who loved being with his family and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Borders Coffey; a daughter, Myra Kaye Chandler; sisters, Mary Phillips, Marlene Wakefield, and Mabel Greene; and a grandson, Anthony Scott Wilson. Those left behind to cherish his memory are two sons, David Coffey and wife Melissa of Boomer and Mark Coffey of Lenoir; four daughters, Patricia Sanders and husband Jake of Wilkesboro, Teresa Hale of Lenoir, April Edwards and husband Jimmy of Asheville, and Leslea Prestwood and husband Gary of Lenoir; a brother, James Coffey and wife Reba of Lenoir; twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 11:00 am at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, from 10 am to 11am. Born Aug. 12, 1932, in Caldwell County, Mrs. Coffey was a daughter of the late Carl Washington and Glenna Irene Martin Borders, and the wife of Mr. Maynard M. Coffey of the home. Mrs. Coffey was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony Scott "Spanky" Wilson, one sister, Mrs. Charlie (Clydia) Dillard and two brothers, Reverend Wayne Borders and William "Bill" Borders. Surviving other than her husband are two sons; David Maynard Coffey and wife Melissa, and Mark S. Coffey and wife Amy; five daughters, Myra Kaye Coffey Chandler; Mrs. Jake (Patty) Sanders; Teresa Coffey Hale; Mrs. Jimmy (April) Edwards; Mrs. Gary (Leslea) Prestwood; two sisters, Mrs. James (Carlene) Corley and Mrs. George (Louise) Walsh; all of Lenoir; 11 grandchildren and 8eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Mrs. Coffey's life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Dr. Alan Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009 at Evans Funeral Service & Crematory.
