656. Langston Coffey^{2758,2759,2760} was born on 11 August 1807 in Adair Co., KY.

Daraleen Wade of Salem, OR provided birthdate in the Sep. 1966 issue of the Coffey Cousins' newsletter. He appeared in the census in 1840 in Jackson Co., AL.²⁷⁶¹ In 1845 he was appointed first Post Master in Coffeetown, Jackson Co., AL. Langston appeared in the census in 1860 in Titus Co., TX Slave Schedule.²⁷⁶² Langston died on 15 August 1861 at the age of 54 in Titus Co., TX and was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Naples, Morris Co., TX.^2763,2764

Source for Langston info from Glendon T. Johnson of Abilele, TX (1995-96), Langston, Brinton and Hugh were brothers, and in Titus Co. about 1850. They and their wives are buried in Morris Co., TX, which in 1850's was part of Titus Co.

The Coffey families came into Titus Co. in the 1850's and settled near what is now Concord.... Morris Co. was not cut off from Titus Co. until 1875. Elizabeth Coffey, Livingston (must be Langston) Coffey and WilliamCoffey all patented land in Titus Co. in 1861.

Anna Moreland states: In addition to his own family, Langston Coffey raised about 8 of his sister's children. Their names were "Bridges".

Kathy Coffey Simmons research places Langston as the son of James, son of Joel and Martha Stepp and Elizabeth Coffey, daughter of Nathan and Mary Saunders Coffey.

Langston Coffey and Mervina Coffey²⁷⁶⁵ were married before 1832.²⁷⁶⁶ They^²⁷⁶⁶ appeared in the census on 6 October 1850 in Titus Co., TX.²⁷⁶⁷ They^²⁷⁶⁷ appeared in the census on 7 September 1860 in Titus Co., TX.²⁷⁶⁸

Coffeetown took its name from four brothers who settled there after the Cherokee Indians were moved to the West in 1836-38. Their names were Brent, Hugh, John and Gig Coffee. All went to Texas before the Civil War. Coffeetown waas located on the south side of the Tennessee River about one miles from Langston toward the Marshall County line. There was one log store building in which the Post Office was kept. Langston Coffee was the first Postmaster, in 1845.

In 1869, James Morgan sold fifteen acres in town lots, and Langston came into existence and Coffeetown died. Mervina Coffey, daughter of Absolom Coffey and Mary Lusk, was born on 22 March 1814 in Kentucky. She appeared in the census on 24 June 1880 in Morris Co., TX.²⁷⁶⁹ Mervina died in Morris Co., TX on 22 September 1889 and was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Naples, Morris Co., TX in September 1889 .^2770,2771

2605	i.	Polly Ann Coffey was born on 29 April 1833. Polly died on 8 December 1838.
2606	ii.	Orintha Elizabeth Coffey was born on 5 July 1836 in Alabama. She lived with her mother in Morris Co., TX on 24 June 1880. Orintha died in Morris Co., TX on 25 June 1905 and was buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Naples, Morris Co., TX in June 1905 .^2772,2773
2607	iii.	Frances Jane Coffey was born on 27 October 1838. Frances died in December 1838.
2608	iv.	Benjamin Benton Coffey was born on 15 November 1839 in Alabama. He lived with his parents in Titus Co., TX on 6 October 1850. He lived with the John M. Cook family in Titus Co., TX on 22 August 1860. Benjamin was killed in battle at Iuka, Tishomingo Co., MS on 19 September 1862.²⁷⁷⁴ Benjamin was a member of the 3d Texas Cavalry during the Civil War. The 3d was later attached to the 27th Texas Cavalry.
