Aaron Coffee Dies At M'Kinney Known as writer under name "Old Cotton Planter." Was About 80 years of Age - Came to Texas in 1869 - His Funeral Today. McKinney, Tex., Feb. 28. - Col. Aaron Coffee died here his evening about 7 o'clock, and his funeral will be held here tomorrow afternoon. Col. Coffee was known for many years as "Old Cotton Planter," under which pen name he wrote much for newspapers and periodicals on the subject of cotton raising, of which he was an extensive planter. Col. Coffee was about 80 years old at the time of his death, having been born in 1832. He came to Texas first in 1869(?), living in Brazoria County several years, afterward moving to McKinney. He served several terms in the State Senate of Mississippi prior to moving to Texas. Col. Coffee is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John Church of Dallas. COFFEE, AARON (1833-?). Aaron Coffee, Brazoria County planter, was born in Mississippi in 1833. He personally had twenty-five slaves, and the plantation he managed, Halcyon, had 132. In 1860 he owned real property valued at $100,000 and personal property valued at $167,350.
