She was born April 2, 1920, in Amherst. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, relative and friend who always had a "good" heart and a will to help others. She was the daughter of Hugh Oliver and Myra Jane Ogden. She attended school in Amherst and Buena Vista. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John H. Coffey; and son, Reginald L.; three brothers, Smith O., Rader M., and Howard L. Ogden; and one sister, Hilda M. Coffey. Surviving family includes two sons, Philip A. Coffey and wife, Shirley, of Salem and Garry W. Coffey, of Buena Vista; two grandsons, John Gregory Coffey and wife, Joan, of Lexington and Christopher T. Coffey and wife, Meaco, of Midlothian; and stepgranddaughter, Lisa S. Rountree and husband, Jeffrey, of Richmond; five great-grandchildren, Blake and Brooke Coffey, Tyler and Casey Coffey, and Jackson Rountree. She is also survived by a sister, Velma O. Shrawder, of Selinsgrove, Pa.; and brother, Hugh O. Ogden Jr. and wife, Becky, of Buena Vista; sister-in-law, Margaret Ogden; and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Lexington Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation. The family thanks the "special people" that assisted with Dorothy over her final years. She was blessed with friends and relatives who helped in her care and well-being. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home in Buena Vista with Steve Coffey and Pastor Rader Ogden officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the funeral home. He was born Feb. 16, 1916, in Rockbridge County, son of the late Lafayette Coffey and Annie Ward Coffey. He was married to Dorothy Ogden Coffey and was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. He retired from the Natural Bridge Learning Center in 1981. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Phillip A. Coffey of Roanoke and Garry W. Coffey of Buena Vista; two brothers, Roy Coffey and Herbert Coffey, both of Rockbridge County; two sisters, Catherine Long of Rockbridge County and Ruby Gilbert of Middlebrook; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. The funeral was held Friday, Nov. 25, at Bolling, Grouse & Lotts funeral Chapel by Randolph Hare.
